The manufacturing industry continues to have a bright future ahead of it in 2023 as yet more big news is released from a major player in the sector…
In a statement released this past Thursday, multinational conglomerate General Electric (GE) — in a further attempt to bolster their aerospace and energy businesses — declared their intentions to invest a whopping $450 million in their existing U.S. manufacturing facilities this year.
According to company officials, the funds are expected to be spent with a focus on cutting-edge equipment and facility upgrades, along with other improvements.
Added to that, the Fortune 500 company also announced their plans to hire upwards of 1,700 employees within the same time frame. A move that is expected to help the Boston-based company work against inflationary and supply-chain pressures, while looking for ways to improve costs and inventory.
The company (which currently operates 58 facilities in the United States) has already taken steps over the past couple of years to expand its interests, specifically dividing itself into three investment-grade public companies. The first of these companies (GE HealthCare) was officially finalized in January of this year, with GE holding 19.9% of the shares.
The other companies will have a direct focus on energy (GE Vernova) and aerospace (GE Aerospace), the latter of which expected to absorb more than $335 million of GE’s allotted $450 million investment. This is likely due to the aerospace division’s profitable work making jet engines for companies such as Boeing and Airbus.
In addition, GE Aerospace has a reported 800 jobs to fill across the country making the company a promising contender for qualified individuals looking for new employment in 2023.
Discussing these exciting changes further, leader of GE and GE Aerospace, Larry Culp noted, “The investments we’re making this year support cutting-edge technology that will help advance the next generation of aerospace manufacturing, ensuring a strong future for our employees, our business, the industry, and our commercial and military customers.”
This announcement is not just good news for GE and its associates, though…
Overall, GE’s declaration of employment opportunities mixed with their heavy investment in U.S. manufacturing is giving a much-needed shot of adrenalin to a sector of the U.S. economy that continues to fight its way back after the most recent economic decline.
The company’s shift in focus towards U.S. manufacturing specifically, comes at a time when D.C. officials are working towards bringing strength back to the continuously struggling sector.
… And, though no government involvement has been officially reported at this time, the company’s recent focus on U.S. manufacturing will more than likely still be touted as a big win for the Biden administration who, in the most recent State of the Union, proclaimed their intentions to return America to its place as the world’s manufacturing leader in 2023.
Despite this, only time will tell whether other industry leaders follow the path spearheaded here by GE, leading to an economic boost for the manufacturing sector as a whole.
It’s no secret that we here at Rain Engineering are a long-time trusted partner of GE Digital.
And as a partner, we are excited to see that GE aerospace is one of the main reasons GE’s MES software is getting so much development attention.
After all, this industry is the reason the Discrete module is being added to GE’s Plant Applications, enabling companies to be able to track manual assembly and provide route instructions. — Needless to say, this is a huge boost to an MES system that is already leaps ahead of other MES systems.
… And as a recently certified Platinum Service Provider in their Solution Provider Program – the highest level obtainable in the program – Rain expects our relationship with GE will only continue to grow in the years ahead.
What does this mean for you?
It means you can trust Rain Engineering to guide you in the deployment, use and support of GE software tools.

It’s Rain’s strong bond with GE, their officials, and its affiliates that enables us to state confidently that the future does indeed look bright for this major player in the U.S. economy.
We couldn’t be happier for our partner as they take steps to future proof their business and continue to make GE an industry leader in the 21st century.
