Why Your MES Investment Means More Than You Think

Here at Rain Engineering, we talk a lot about what a digital transformation will do for the companies that decide to take that step towards future proofing their companies.

If you’re interested in reading our take on those thoughts, you can access our blog library HERE.

Today, though, we thought we’d take a look at the other side of the coin and tell you what your investment in digital transformation means for, not just companies like ours, but the manufacturing industry as a whole.

Join us as we dive into this topic further to better explain why your investment has the power to reshape the industry we all know and love.

Investing in MES

Digital technology spending has been skyrocketing over the past several years.

As more and more companies get on board the MES wagon, the global manufacturing industry is being forced to redefine itself and the way it operates.

According to Deloitte’s 2023 Manufacturing Industry Outlook, this spending is not solely based in plant-level processes, but across the entirety of the industry as a whole.

The report states that companies with greater digital maturity had a better resilience and improved supply-chain visibility, partly due to their greater agility and adaptability brought on by their many digital resources.

Deloitte’s research states that 60% of manufacturers plan to invest in data analytics, with 39% currently upping their focus in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

Benefits for All

As stated above, there are many benefits ahead for anyone just getting started on their digital transformation journey (learn more here…) But those benefits are not limited to the individual who is taking that big step.

Actually, your involvement in furthering the support behind industry wide MES advancement will play a major part in restoring the manufacturing industry back to its rightful place as a top contender in the global economy, (most notably in the U.S.)

You see, despite how many times it’s praised, how many benefits it’s produced, or industry leaders it converts, there are still those out there working in the industry with a 20th century mentality.

If you happen to be that person, we agree that the results are the same and those tried-and-true methods do get the job done. But at what cost?

How valuable is your time?

How valuable is your energy?

By putting your faith in digital technologies, you free yourself and your team up to spend more time working on the things that really matter, like turning a profit.

The tools are now at our disposal to collect that much needed system and user data in real time, allowing you to fix problems before they become an issue. Yet another benefit to bringing your facility into the 21st century.

But, what about those industry-wide benefits we mentioned?

We’re glad you asked.

By digitizing your facility, you join a growing group of individuals looking towards the future. That group, with a continuously growing population, will have its own dialect and ways of interacting, all of which you will not only have access to, but come to depend on.

The key to all of this is clear communication and that’s what your investment in Industry 4.0 helps to achieve.

You and your team will be one more out there learning the ropes of what is sure to become (if it hasn’t already) the industry standard and will no longer be one of the individuals holding the manufacturing sector back from transforming into the global powerhouse we know it can be.

And once manufacturing gets up and running once again, you will certainly begin to see an impact in the national and global economy which, as you know, impacts us all.

You see, your investment has power behind it. Power to transform your facility, power to transform your life, power to transform the world! How can someone say no to that?!

The Wrap Up

This is only a small taste of what a global acceptance of Industry 4.0 might look like.

And while you may not have the power to make everyone in the industry let go of their old-fashioned ways, if you have any interest in being part of the manufacturing conversation in the years ahead, you really need to consider moving forward with your MES before you get left behind.

Remember, the only way forward is through adaptability. Those that adapt have the power to grow. Those that get set in their ways grow stagnate and die. It’s as simple as that.

Don’t shut yourself – and your company – out by not being open minded and listening to what the world has to offer.

Yes, there are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there, but every once in a while, someone has something to offer that could change your life. We like to think we’re in the latter of those groups.
